About to boom?

You can't help but notice how many shops and businesses are for sale in our town. Some people are getting worried that we are going into a recession, but there are a lot of long-time residents here that have lived through this cycle before and they say that Eureka is on the cusp of an economical boom. I hope this is the case, as I would hate to see the historic buildings downtown go into disrepair. On the other hand, if the tourist-oriented shops couldn't sell enough to stay open and they closed, maybe the rents would get cheaper downtown and regular stores that cater to locals could open up again.

I know I have high-hopes, but I would love to see the downtown area have a pharmacy, a grocery store, a furniture store, a hardware store, copy center, and other types of services we could use without having to drive away from town to get. Don't get me wrong, I love the downtown how it is today - I'm so glad the Post Office, the Hospital, and the Library are there. I just think it would be ideal to walk everywhere or take the trolley.
