New Year = lots of new trash?

I regularly walk 3 miles in my neighborhood at least five times a week. I always go the same route, so I am used to the scenery. Something new that we have discovered, unfortunately, is a bunch of trash along the road.

On New Year's Day, we picked up 13 aluminum cans (mostly beer), 2 plastic drinking bottles, and 1 glass bottle. Today, we walked again and found 11 aluminum cans, 4 plastic bottles, and 6 glass bottles. It is very sad that people have such disregard for the community and nature that they would just throw these in the grass. And since tourism is slow this time of year, that means it is probably trash from people who live here. The funny thing is all these things are recyclable and we have free curb-side recycle pick up every week. People are just very lazy and/or rude.
