Recycling reminder

I just wanted to write a quick reminder to people who regularly recycle, because I often find myself forgetting the other two "R's" - Reduce and Re-use. The first one (reduce) means to buy products that have less packaging, such as the bagged cereal instead of the boxed kind with a bag inside. So many products these days have extra packaging that is unnecessary.

The other one (re-use) can work on so many levels. Big stuff like furniture can be re-finished or re-upholstered. Clothes and shoes can be mended. Electronics and appliances can be fixed - although these days it is usually cheaper to buy a new one which is very sad because of all the energy and resources wasted. Small things can be re-used too, like pieces of aluminum foil and scraps of paper. I always write my grocery list on the backs of used envelopes.

Then, of course, remember to always recycle anything you can! And follow the old Girl Scout saying "Leave a place cleaner than how you found it." We pick up after Litter Bugs all the time!
