Sour breath

What is it about "sour apple" flavored candy that makes it linger on people's breath forever?? It seems like it especially sticks in kids' mouths for a very long time. After eating a piece of sour apple candy, even if you can't taste the flavor in your mouth anymore, your breath will still smell bad for hours after.

My daughter thinks it is funny and likes to blow her breath in my face after eating a sour apple piece of candy - and I can still smell it after she brushes her teeth! That flavor is atomic!
