Quality of Life

Today, while on our family walk, my husband and I were discussing the ways that our lives have changed since we moved to Eureka Springs six months ago. The biggest difference is that we have been living with only one car. Since we both work at home, this is fairly easy for us and it's nice not to have to pay for gas and insurance for two cars.

The second difference is that we are living without a cell phone, which probably sounds crazy to most people. It's like people can't remember just a few years back when most of us didn't have cell phones. Well, we got along just fine without them then, and we still can now (thank you very much!)

Another change is that we don't watch TV at all. We lived without cable for awhile a couple of years ago and we didn't want our kids influenced by the media so much anymore, so we decided to forgo it here also. So far, none of us have missed it AT ALL. In fact, if we see a little of it at someone else's house it just looks ridiculous now with all the "reality" shows and hyped-up commercials. No wonder so many kids these days have ADD.

Another change is that we walk a lot to run errands like to the library, the post office, the shops downtown, etc. Sometimes we take the trolley, but we like the walk and it usually takes the same amount of time anyway. But it's nice to have the trolley as an option in case you walk downtown and get stuck in the rain, then you can at least get a ride home.

An added bonus about all of these changes is that we save at least $200 a month! Now, if I could only get the grocery bill down lower...
