I remember as a kid, I had one of those white roller shades that you pull down to close and are kind of tricky to open. They work like the maps teachers have on the wall in school. Since they take up hardly any room and have the most minimal "stack back" area when open, they won't interfere with any other window treatments you have.

Even though you may consider them as only a room darkening option to go along with your drapes, these simple, low maintenance shades look just fine on their own. They create a bold, modern, clean look that would improve upon the mini blinds many of us have currently on our windows that need desperately to be replaced.
