New website ranking system

I'm always finding new websites and thinking to myself, "Now why didn't I think of that?" The latest site to add to my list is Big Web Links, which is a site where members bid for position in their directory. Users have control over listing placement, because they are sorted by bid amount and anyone can add to the contribution of a website. The idea is, if people find a website really useful, they would want to promote it, so they can add any dollar amount to a website's contribution total in order to help move that site up in the rankings of Big Web Links.

So if you want to stay on the top, you have to consistently have the highest contribution amount. This is genius for the creator of the site, because you have sites competing for top position and you can see right on the page how much contributions have been made for the top sites. The top 10 listings are shown on the homepage, and the top 20 are shown on the "top links" page. All listings are permanent, but your ad will get "bumped" down in the listings unless you keep the contributions high.
